Am I overreacting? Staying with a new host next week, she’s only done this for a month. Some red flags.

Hosts canceling because they want to raise prices should be financially penalized

My host sent me a message that he needs me to cancel my reservation because he needs to stay there. I’m a week out and already have other expenses paid for this trip. Can he ask this? Do I have to comply? Thanks for any help (AirBnB provided zero)!
