Host Called 911 After Arriving at 4am from Hospital on the Second Night
A confusing situation has left me uncertain how to proceed. There were no curfew rules for the rental, and I was at a horse show when I sustained a severe injury to my humerus, requiring an overnight stay at the hospital. Because my show shirt needed to be cut away, I returned in a hospital gown, which is why police were involved. The host said they were alerted because they didn’t recognize our car, and a man reportedly escorted a woman inside in a hospital gown, despite my inability to move without significant pain.
The host claimed she saw a security camera footage, though we weren’t aware of any camera on the exterior of the property. More unsettling was the fact that she called the police and then sent a message asking whether we were the guests, given we used the same car for the entire trip. They were checking in at 4am, which added to the strangeness. Aside from these concerns, the host was kind and understanding, which makes this situation hard to categorize.
I recently learned the host left a review, and I’m worried about a potentially negative impact, especially since I only use Airbnb for accommodations. Should I contact Airbnb, or leave a slightly negative review? It’s been a few days since the incident, but I required emergency surgery the following day. I’ve never experienced anything like this and hope to avoid a repeat.
Edit: For clarity, I’m still dealing with significant pain from medications, and I’ve added details others mentioned
- The rental was a standalone house
- After the incident, I reached out to apologize for the scare, explained what happened, and asked why the host called the police, but I haven’t received a response
- I’m mainly concerned about the possibility of a negative review, given the host’s review of me
- I didn’t contact the host before the incident because, after the fall, I hit my head and focused on whether my horse was OK and whether I might be kept overnight
- Friends encouraged me to write a bad review, but I’m seeking additional input
- My initial distress came from the pain of bones moving when I went to report to the police; I later received only mild pain relief at the hospital
At present, I’m leaning toward not posting a review. The host seems to have been genuinely concerned, and I wish she had responded to my outreach after the fact. I don’t see harm in not leaving a review, especially since I wasn’t on the property much during the stay.
