Host Threatens to Cancel Reservation Over Coronavirus Assumptions

This is my first post here. I had a Valentine’s Day weekend reservation planned with my partner, but my host recently contacted me expressing a preference to cancel. Her stated concern is that I may have the coronavirus.

What happened began with an assumption: she believed I was Chinese and inferred that I would celebrate Chinese New Year—described as a gathering where large groups of Chinese people come together. I did not indicate that I was Chinese, nor do I celebrate Chinese New Year.

Using this assumption as “evidence,” she proceeded to conclude that I could be a likely carrier of the virus. For context, I reside in Ontario, Canada. While the virus has appeared here, it has only shown up in major cities like Toronto and Vancouver, neither of which I have visited in months. I do not consider this situation a credible risk based on her claims.

After I explained that I am not Chinese and that I do not live in a major city, she made a partial withdrawal but has since threatened to cancel again, stating that she has mono and is pregnant, and does not want to risk exposure.

What options do I have in this situation? I am uncertain about Airbnb’s policy regarding these kinds of interactions, but I feel discriminated against. My partner is Caucasian, and I can’t help but wonder whether she would have faced similar treatment if she had made the reservation.

Updates:
– Update 1: The host canceled and I received a refund and travel credit. I am awaiting Airbnb’s guidance on potential re-booking.
– Update 2: Airbnb filed a discrimination claim (Monday). I was told to expect a response from the resolutions department regarding re-booking. After two days with no contact, I called in again (Wednesday). No re-booking options were available at that time. I ended up booking two separate hotels for the two nights and Airbnb offered to reimburse $100 of the total hotel costs. While I am glad we can proceed, this situation was stressful and more expensive than planned.
– I have received no update on the original host. I shared screenshots of the conversation with the discrimination support agent but have not yet received feedback beyond a general apology and an assurance that the matter is under review. I will post an update if there are developments.

If you have encountered a similar experience or have guidance on handling discriminatory behavior from hosts within booking platforms, I’d appreciate any recommendations or resources.
