Title: After Booking an Airbnb, I’m Asked for a $1,000 Daily Deposit for “Luxurious Amenities” or Lose Entry

I recently booked an Airbnb, with the total coming to about $150 per night plus a cleaning fee since it’s a new listing. Shortly after payment, the host contacted me with a demand: a $1,000 deposit (0% refund) to cover “luxurious amenities,” with the deposit to be returned in 30–60 days. The host did not specify what these amenities are. Additionally, they stated that if I don’t submit this deposit through Airbnb’s resolution center, I won’t be allowed access to the suite.

I contacted Airbnb, but they did not issue a refund, and I’m unsure if this practice is common on the platform or how to proceed. This situation feels like a potential scam.

Airbnb has suggested that I cancel, but doing so would likely result in a minimal refund, and I don’t have a direct line to anyone else to discuss the issue.

What steps should I take in this scenario?

Update: I’ve added in-line updates in the comments, along with links to Airbnb and supporting screenshots.
